I haven’t seen the levels this flooded since 2013/14. Rarer still is a cold spell following while the water is so high.
I’d scouted this location the week before, and for the night shoot I had to don waders after my boots got flooded on the recce! I wasn’t all that cold, but the water had risen since my first visit and it was a job managing my camera gear with nowhere to perch my bag—and batteries kept dying. It must have been several degrees below zero; by the time I returned to the car, my path out had frozen back over.
Worth the effort though. Printed out, the ice patterns in the foreground look amazing close-up!
