This image sums up my short visit to Rum. You can almost feel the rain lashing your face and ingressing through waterproof layers while you look at it… Chilly flashbacks aside, I really like the balance in this image. The repeating diagonal gullies in the sandstone have the feeling of jellyfish tendrils and are strong enough in form to balance out the brooding rain clouds in the top right corner. There is a dynamic contrast between the yellow and green stones and the darker boulders in the mid-ground. And I like how Rum is slightly obscured, but still spotlit by the spill of light making its way in from the top left of the frame. The highlight of the image has to be the little trough of cool stones in the bottom left corner contrasting with the colour and texture of the seaweed-covered yellow rock.
