“That’s My Snow”
I spent a good hour sitting on this composition. When I first arrived, the hulking presence of Slioch stood out prominent above the Scots pines on the island. However, while I was setting up the shot, the sun gathered momentum and the heated snow evaporated and formed a mist that obscured the mountaintop. I cursed my luck. Before too long though, I got a window where I was able to make some long exposures. I like the light in this image. A cloud off to stage left diffused the mid-morning sun softening the shadows on the foreground. At the same time the light lifts the highlights and makes the greens of the pines pop. I only spent a morning at Loch Maree, but I cannot wait to return and give this place the attention it deserves.
