Ben Loyal

“A Prehistoric Itch”

This wintery journey north was my last action of a fantastic trip. I was exhausted from so much driving and exploring lots of new places and heavy rain the following day put pay to me exploring Ben Loyal and Ben Hope from different angles. However, I am glad I made it this far up Scotland and this composition on Loch Hakel shooting south towards Ben Loyal is one of my favourite images of my 2024 winter adventure. The foreground rocks have some lovely gesture to them—like a finger flicking away a midge or a prehistoric sea monster breaching a salt water surface. The light on the mountains is beautifully dimensional and although I didn’t get any real sky colour, the muted pallet works well for this scene.
