There were a couple of things which made me overlook this photo on first and second pass. Firstly, I couldn’t find a crop which worked. When I leave too much of the stone in the lower left corner visible it takes too much of your attention—it kinda reminds me of a dinosaur shadow puppet that I used to make on my bedroom wall as a child. Balancing this element with the headroom in the sky was key to making this image work. Secondly, straight out of camera, the colour palate wasn’t very clean. I resolved this by reducing the blues in the raw editor and I further simplified to a dichromatic look with selective colour filter in photoshop before finally split toning the finished image. This was one of my first frames on Singing Sands beach on Eigg, but it is probably also my favourite.
